Château de Juval
Reinhold Messner, le célèbre alpiniste de l'extrême du Tyrol du Sud, auteur de livres et fondateur d'un musée, a réveillé le château de Juval de son sommeil de Belle au bois dormant. Il a rénové le château, en a fait sa résidence d'été et en a transformé une partie en musée.
Le château de Juval trône sur le territoire de la commune de Castelbello-Ciardes, au-dessus de l'étroite gorge du Val Senales, près de Naturno. Il est mentionné pour la première fois dans un document de 1278 et a été transformé au 16ème siècle d'une fortification médiévale en un château de la Renaissance. Après la Seconde Guerre mondiale, le château du Val Venosta a été laissé à lui-même et a commencé à tomber en ruine.
Musée de la montagne Messner à Juval
En 1983 , Reinhold Messner acquiert le château de Juval et associe les murs médiévaux à une architecture moderne et à des influences de pays lointains. Une partie du château devient une résidence privée, l'autre l'un des nombreux sites du Tyrol du Sud du projet de musée Messner Mountain Museen.
Le musée est consacré au mythe de la montagne. Les visiteurs du MMM Juval peuvent notamment découvrir la collection de tibétaines, la bibliothèque d'aventures, la collection de masques des cinq continents et la galerie de photos sur les montagnes sacrées du monde. Les fresques Renaissance valent également le coup d'œil. Sur la colline du château se trouvent également un petit parc animalier de montagne, l'auberge Schlosswirt avec des produits de la ferme, le domaine viticole Unterortl avec d'excellents vins et, au pied de la colline, le Vinschger Bauernladen.
